Microsoft Confirms Gears of War: E-Day Will Not Arrive on PS5, Xbox Changes Strategy
Microsoft has announced a significant change in strategy for Gears of War: E-Day, the new chapter of the famous action saga. During the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, the company confirmed that the title will no longer be released on PlayStation 5, despite previously being listed among the target platforms along with Xbox and PC.
The game will officially arrive on October 6, 2026 and will be available exclusively on Xbox consoles and PC. This decision represents a significant shift from the multi-platform policy that Microsoft had adopted in recent years for some of its most important intellectual properties. The announcement was accompanied by a new trailer that showcased several gameplay sequences.
The footage opens with a devastating alien attack in an urban setting, where commercial buildings and city streets become the stage for the clash between extraterrestrial invaders and human forces. The images highlighted the elements that have made the series famous: intense battles, abundant action, and the characteristic cover system. Among the curious details shown in the video, some fans noticed a soldier wearing simple blue jeans, a decidedly unusual look for the saga.
Gears of War: E-Day Will Be Xbox Exclusive, Not Coming to PS5
The choice to make E-Day an Xbox exclusive appears particularly significant considering that in 2025 the series debuted on PlayStation platforms with Gears of War: Reloaded, a remake that represented one of the symbols of Microsoft's multi-platform strategy.
However, in recent months, several signals had hinted at a possible change in direction. After the recent reshuffle at the top of the gaming division and the appointment of new leadership, many observers had speculated about a strengthening of the Xbox identity through a return to exclusives.
The decision regarding Gears of War: E-Day represents so far the most concrete indication of this new strategic line, a choice that could also influence the future of other important first-party productions from Microsoft. This strategy also includes Clockwork Revolution, a title that will be available in 2027 and focuses on time travel and how, based on said travels, the environment and gameplay change accordingly. This will also be an Xbox and PC exclusive.
