Rayman Legends Retold: Everything We Know About the 3D Reboot Including Gameplay, Editions, and New Content

During the State of Play, Ubisoft announced Rayman Legends Retold, set to release on October 1st for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The Standard Edition will cost $40.

This project is not just a simple remaster, but a complete three-dimensional reworking of the Legends chapter, developed with the declared goal of appealing to both longtime fans of the series and a new generation of players.

On the technical front, the game is developed using the Snowdrop engine, already used by Ubisoft in other significant titles. The 3D graphics are designed to maintain a two-dimensional visual perception of the scenarios through a dynamic framing tilt system, aiming to preserve the original scrolling gameplay feel while adding depth and immersion.

The roster of playable characters includes Rayman, Globox, Barbara, Grand Minimus, and Murphy, engaged in a narrative adventure that introduces a new antagonist and an unexplored kingdom. Among the gameplay novelties are four original musical levels, where the player's actions must synchronize with the rhythm of the soundtrack, a mechanism appreciated in the original version and expanded here. There is also the Cave of Trials mode, dedicated to advanced challenges for the most demanding players.

On the audio production side, the soundtrack is composed by Christophe Héral and Grant Kirkhope. However, the most significant element in this area is the introduction, for the first time in the saga's history, of complete voice acting for all characters with fully dubbed cinematic scenes.

The title supports local cooperative mode for up to four simultaneous players, with integrated competitive dynamics in the main structure: participants can cooperate or compete for collecting Lum and rescuing Teensy. The Kung Foot minigame returns, with optimized controls, power-ups, and rule customization options.

"By keeping everything that fans love, Legends has given us the chance to expand the myth of Rayman, the mechanics of his world, and everything that holds it together," said Loïc Gounon, Brand Producer.

In addition to the Standard Edition, the title will also be available in a Deluxe Edition, which will include Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition - also available for individual purchase starting October 1st. This version brings the original 2D platformer to 4K resolution and 60 fps, with support for haptic feedback and modern technical updates.
