Polestar 3 Switches to 800 Volts: Charges Up to 350 kW and 500 kW Power, Orders Open in Italy

Polestar updates both of its electric SUVs and opens orders in Italy:

  • Polestar 3 starts at €83,600 in the Rear motor version, while the Polestar 4 coupe, which with this update officially adopts the designation "coupe", starts at €65,100. These are not mere aesthetic refreshes: Polestar 3 receives a new electric architecture at 800 Volts that substantially changes charging performance, while Polestar 4 coupe gets a completely revised chassis setup and further progress on the carbon footprint front.

Polestar 3: 800V and Up to 350 kW Charging

The most significant technical leap concerns the Polestar 3: the adoption of the 800 Volt architecture brings DC charging power up to 350 kW, with a charge from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes and an improvement of 25% compared to the previous generation. The session is managed by the Breathe Charge system, an advanced software that monitors the battery status in real-time and dynamically adjusts the charging speed to preserve its long-term health. The practical result is up to 38% more range in a 10-minute DC session compared to charging without Breathe Charge.

In terms of dynamic performance, all versions adopt a new permanent magnet synchronous rear motor, paired with an asynchronous front motor in the dual motor versions. The total power reaches 500 kW in the Performance variant. An automatic disconnection system for the front motor optimizes efficiency during daily driving, while updated suspensions, revised front anti-roll bars, and a new steering software tuning complete the dynamic package. Also debuting on board is the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin processor, which increases computing capacity by more than eight times compared to the previous unit, with free hardware upgrades also available for existing customers.

Design and Range Structure

Both Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 coupe adopt the trim structure already introduced with Polestar 5: Rear motor, Dual motor, and Performance versions, with a clear and readable progression. For Polestar 3, the entry-level Rear motor version receives an optimized battery size, while the active air suspension is optional on the Dual motor and standard on the Performance. A visual detail that identifies the versions are the seat belts: black for Rear motor, black with Swedish gold insert for Dual motor, and fully Swedish gold for the Performance versions. Polestar 3 is also enriched with two new exterior colors and new interior combinations, including MicroTech bio-attributed with quilted design in Nebula and Nappa leather in Dune.

Regarding the chassis, Polestar 4 coupe adopts a completely revised setup: high capacity passive dampers, new springs, and anti-roll bars, polyurethane bump stops instead of internal springs, and increased steering precision. The Dual motor versions accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. Environmentally, the Dual motor variant produced at the Hangzhou Bay plant arrives in Italy with a carbon footprint of 20.3 tCO₂e, down by 1.1 tCO₂e from the launch, while the Rear motor version stands at 19.4 tCO₂e, the lowest value across the entire Polestar range.

While with this update Polestar 3 adopts the new 800 Volt architecture, enabling DC charging up to 350 kW and more efficient thermal management of the entire powertrain, the Polestar 4 coupe retains the 400 Volt architecture based on Geely's SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) platform, with DC charging up to 200 kW.

Availability and Pricing

Both models are orderable from today in Italy. Polestar 3 starts at €83,600 in the Rear motor version; Polestar 4 coupe from €65,100, also in the Rear motor variant. The Polestar range currently counts four models with the Polestar 6 roadster and Polestar 7 compact SUV arriving, the latter with planned production in Europe.
