PS6 Development Continues Amidst Many Difficulties: Sony May Reduce Memory to Contain Costs

The development of the PS6 continues, but Sony has to face the memory crisis which, as confirmed by the company itself, makes it impossible, for the moment, to precisely define a launch date and price.

New rumors, in the meantime, suggest a potential new compromise for Sony's console. The company may reduce memory compared to the initial target in order to contain costs.

Less RAM for the PS6?

Leaker Kepler_L2 has pointed out some possible solutions that Sony is working on to tackle the memory crisis and keep the price of the PS6 in check. One of the options on the table is a cut to RAM, shifting from 32 GB (target set at the beginning of development) to 24 GB.

Such a solution would significantly reduce costs, especially considering the potential use of a 128-bit memory bus and 1 TB of SSD (sacrificing more storage space).

A more conservative hypothesis, with 20 GB of RAM and 500 GB of SSD, would likely be discarded, as it would weaken the console too much and significantly reduce available space, especially considering the absence of a disc drive (which will be a separate accessory to purchase).

We will see what choices Sony will make. In any case, the launch of the console is still a long way off. The official debut could take place in 2027, but if the memory crisis continues, further delays cannot be ruled out.
