After 20 Years, ASUS ROG Brings Its Very First Motherboard Back to the Market

ASUS is prepared to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Republic of Gamers brand with a new motherboard that looks directly to its roots. A teaser published on the company's social channels shows a ROG Crosshair 20th Anniversary Edition, a model that clearly references the design of the historic ROG Crosshair from 2006, the motherboard that marked the official debut of the brand dedicated to enthusiasts.

The aesthetic reference is immediate: the new offering adopts the famous copper cooling system, a distinctive element of the original model. In 2006, this solution represented a significant novelty, thanks to a complex system with heat pipes connected between VRM, northbridge, and southbridge, designed to provide lower temperatures and higher margins in overclocking.

A modern reinterpretation of that concept emerges in the teaser: the copper structure is reintroduced, but in a much more intricate design with the ROG logo prominently displayed, absent in the original version. There is also a small color display integrated into the bottom of the cooler, similar to the monochrome OLED found on the X670E Extreme. On the body of the cooling system, there is also a direct reference to "2006", a detail that confirms ASUS's intention to pay homage to the first iteration of the series.

At the moment, ASUS has not released details regarding the socket, chipset, or complete technical specifications, but it seems obvious that this is an updated platform featuring the latest high-end technologies. Considering that the original Crosshair was designed for AMD processors and that recent EEC registrations mention the X870E chipset, the most credible hypothesis points toward a solution with an AM5 socket intended for the latest-generation Ryzen processors.

The official presentation may arrive on June 1st during the ASUS ROG event, with possible public exposure also at Computex 2026. For long-time enthusiasts, the return of one of the brand's most representative motherboards is shaping up, reinterpreted with modern features but with a strong visual identity linked to the past.
