70 Awards in Less Than a Year and Now Also in Black: The Fan You Can't Ignore

Noctua has officially announced the chromax.black variant of the NF-A12x25 G2, a 120x25mm fan that has quickly become a benchmark in its category since its introduction in June 2025. The new color variation brings a total black design to a product that has already collected over 70 accolades from international publications, magazines, and specialized YouTube channels.

"The first generation of NF-A12x25 was one of Noctua's most successful fans ever, so the G2 version had high expectations to meet. We are very pleased with the excellent response from both customers and specialized reviewers," said Roland Mossig, CEO of Noctua.

On a technical level, the chromax.black does not introduce any changes compared to the standard counterpart, which is known for various features, including a tolerance of only 0.5mm between the tips of the blades and the frame – a record value for its category. The etaPERF motor with SupraTorque technology manages the torque, allowing it to maintain adequate performance even in environments with high aerodynamic resistance, such as liquid cooling radiators.

Acoustic efficiency remains the central strength: Noctua claims a significant improvement in the performance/noise ratio compared to the first-generation NF-A12x25, both in low-impedance applications and in high back-pressure scenarios.

Noctua also offers the Sx2-PP pack, which includes two units with slightly staggered speeds of about ±50 RPM from each other. The offset helps prevent undesirable harmonic phenomena that manifest as intermittent vibrations or periodic buzzing when two identical fans run in perfect sync. The pack is suitable for both push-pull configurations on 240 or 360mm radiators and for parallel installations typical of case cooling.

On the aesthetic front, the chromax.black version supports customization through colored anti-vibration pads, available separately. The color choice aligns with the growing demand for total black components in modern builds, where the typical beige and brown of Noctua often represent a visual discontinuity.
