Xiaomi Changes Strategy: Goodbye to the Company's Flip Phones?

The segment of foldable smartphones is undergoing a transition period, especially regarding flip phones, a segment that was expected to drive the foldable market. Several brands have left the market and do not plan to create new devices, likely due to the rising production costs driven by the memory crisis.

Among these could also be Xiaomi. A new leak confirms a change of strategy for the Chinese company, which might not be producing new models of the Mix Flip series that had carved out its niche in the Chinese market. Here are the first details.

A Change of Strategy

Xiaomi will not produce any more flip phones, at least according to the latest report. The Chinese company has to deal with low demand for this type of smartphone in a segment dominated by brands like Samsung and Motorola.

Consequently, following the lead of Vivo, OPPO, and HONOR, Xiaomi could also abandon the flip phone segment to focus resources on other market segments that promise higher revenues.

The future of Xiaomi in the foldable segment may be tied to the commercialization of a new Mix Fold. The debut of a model of this kind could happen during the upcoming summer.

Among the possibilities on the table is also the launch of an Xiaomi 18 Fold, and thus, a foldable phone capable of enhancing the future Xiaomi 18 lineup, expected to arrive in the second half of the year. We will know more in the coming weeks.
