OnePlus Confirms Rumors: The Handheld Console is in Testing Phase
Despite rumors of a downsizing that have been circulating for some time, OnePlus continues to look to the future and update its range of devices, including smartphones, tablets, and other products. In the near future, the brand will add a handheld console to its lineup. The project has already been the subject of a series of rumors and speculation. It is worth noting that OnePlus is also working on a new tablet with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
The Handheld Console is Under Evaluation
Recently, OnePlus itself confirmed the existence of the project. During a live stream, OnePlus manager Li Jie officially stated that the company is testing a "portable gaming device". This confirmation was also accompanied by a hand-drawn sketch that does not reflect the final design of the console.
Rumors about OnePlus's handheld console vary. The project is expected to feature a touch display of approximately 8 inches and a high-end MediaTek SoC, ensuring excellent performance in all usage contexts. The console will have various physical buttons but may not include joysticks, with the user experience heavily focused on multi-touch usage with low latency. The operating system will be Android.
Currently, information is limited, and OnePlus has not yet made a final decision on the project, which, however, could debut later this year. The commercial launch will likely be limited to China and a few selected markets. A European launch seems unlikely but cannot be completely ruled out.
