Opera Browser Connector: ChatGPT and Claude Now Read Your Open Tabs

Opera has announced the availability of Browser Connector, a new free feature for the Opera One and Opera GX browsers that aims to eliminate one of the main bottlenecks in the daily use of artificial intelligence: the lack of immediate context. Until now, interacting with chatbots like ChatGPT or Claude required constant information transfer through copy-pasting or manual URL input, forcing users to act as a bridge between the browser and the language model.

At the heart of this innovation is the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard developed by Anthropic that establishes a secure and bidirectional connection between AI models and external data sources. Although Opera had already introduced MCP support last month on Opera Neon, its subscription-based experimental browser, extending the technology to mainstream versions marks a decisive step toward a more open ecosystem. The goal is to ensure that users are not tied to a single ecosystem but can combine the best tools available for their specific needs.

Deep AI Integration via Model Context Protocol

Activating the Browser Connector transforms the way artificial intelligence interacts with the web. Once the connection is established, the chosen AI (whether it's OpenAI's model or Anthropic's) can
