After two years, the company has made the device available for purchase in the United States alongside Vox, a solution that also turns the keyboard into a wearable and completes the hands-free computer usage experience.
Regarding MouthPad, it is a device custom-made for each user, and the reason is simple: it must be worn just like an orthodontic appliance, requiring precise measurements to fit the mouth. The device integrates a pressure-sensitive trackpad located on the palate that, together with head movement tracking, allows you to move the cursor, execute clicks, and perform swipes.
Every gesture can be customized through Augmental's companion app. According to the company, more than 100 people with motor difficulties are already using MouthPad daily, with some users wearing it for up to 16 hours a day.
The MouthPad 2 model, updated at the beginning of 2026, introduces several technical improvements. The most noticeable change concerns support for keyboard shortcuts activated by the tongue, which expands the possibilities for hands-free computer control. Battery life now exceeds 7 hours of use, while the device can be connected to multiple gadgets simultaneously.

On the performance front, Augmental claims that a MouthPad user achieved 10.47 bits per second in a cursor precision test. The company suggests this value is comparable to that obtained from some implanted brain-computer interfaces.
Unfortunately, the price is far from that of a simple mouse and will likely exclude a large number of people potentially interested in the project: MouthPad costs a hefty $1,400, plus $100 for the necessary dental scan to obtain the measurements on which the device is based.
If MouthPad represents the equivalent of a mouse, Vox is Augmental's answer to the keyboard. It is a small pendant that rests on the skin and detects voice through body vibrations, rather than through the surrounding air.
The technology, inspired by how a stethoscope works, allows Vox to filter out ambient noise and capture dictations spoken almost in a whisper. The user can activate the device by pressing a button or with a tongue gesture, if Vox is paired with MouthPad. This intentional activation represents an important privacy feature: unlike many AI gadgets that are always listening, Vox activates only when the user decides.
Vox will arrive in beta version by the end of 2026 at a price of $200. The proceeds from the initial production will be allocated to funding MouthPad for individuals in need.
In the long term, Augmental aims to combine the acoustic data collected by Vox with the tongue movement patterns detected by MouthPad. The goal is to develop a "silent speech" technology that allows communication with a device without making any sound.
