The wave of price increases that has affected fuel over the past two weeks is heavily impacting Italians' summer travel, prompting Codacons to call for urgent government intervention for a new cut in excise duties, valid at least until the end of August.

The average price of diesel on the highway is currently racing towards the threshold of €2.20 per litre. Specifically, the average for full service is €2.177, while for self-service, the average is €2.134 per litre. This figure represents an increase of 16.6 cents compared to the beginning of July, a rise that particularly burdens those using the highway network to reach vacation spots.

The Situation on Ordinary Roads and Impact on Consumers

The situation does not improve on ordinary roads. Here, the average price of diesel has seen an increase of 17.7 cents since July 3rd. Petrol has also recorded an increase, albeit more contained, amounting to 11.8 cents over the same period. These increases translate into significantly higher costs for refueling: a full tank of diesel now costs almost €9 more, precisely €8.85, compared to the early days of July.

In light of these numbers and the intensification of travel associated with the summer period, Codacons emphasizes the need for an immediate cut in excise duties. This measure, which should be extended at least until the end of August, aims to lighten the financial burden on families who would otherwise face additional economic strain during their holidays.
