OLED monitors improve further: VESA introduces a new certification level DisplayHDR True Black
The memory crisis is significantly slowing down the PC sector. In the meantime, however, shipments of OLED displays are experiencing strong growth, thanks in part to the arrival of many new models on the market, which in many cases have more affordable prices compared to the past.
The OLED monitor sector is no longer a niche market but represents a benchmark for the PC market. For this reason, recently, VESA introduced the new standard DisplayHDR True Black 1400, which represents its highest certification level for OLED displays.
A certification for high-end models, DisplayHDR True Black 1400 is the certification to consider for users looking for a high-end panel, designed particularly for professional content creators and entertainment.
To obtain certification, an OLED monitor must achieve a peak brightness of 1400 nits while maintaining a very deep black level down to 0.0005 nits. Additionally, certified displays must reach 700 nits full-screen brightness to be suitable for professional HDR workflows.
At the moment, there are still no DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certified models on the market. However, it's just a matter of time.
Samsung Display, for example, is already planning to launch OLED and QD-OLED panels over the next few months. Lenovo, on the other hand, has announced the Yoga Pro 16 notebook equipped with a DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certified OLED display.
Roland Wooster, President of the VESA Working Group, commented: "DisplayHDR True Black 1400 introduces a new premium level that recognizes the latest advancements in HDR performance of OLEDs, providing creators and consumers with the assurance that certified displays can deliver exceptional image quality. This new level represents an important step forward in HDR content creation and high-quality viewing experiences."
