DLSS Swapper Could Infect Your PC with Malware, Beware of 'Miraculous' User-Uploaded Files
DLSS Swapper
DLSS Swapper has become one of the most used tools among PC gaming enthusiasts to replace the original DLSS libraries of games with newer or older versions. The application, distributed as an open-source project, also allows for the management of AMD FSR and Intel XeSS libraries, but its developer has now urged users to pay special attention to files coming from the community.
The software uses a manifest to identify the DLL files present in the official DLSS, FSR, and XeSS libraries. Before a library is made available within the application, the system verifies that the security hashes match those of the official versions, thus ensuring the authenticity of the files.
The situation changes when DLSS Swapper detects unknown DLLs present in newly installed games or when users decide to manually upload new files to the project's GitHub repository. In these cases, the DLLs are published as "issues" to facilitate sharing with the community, but there is no automated verification procedure equivalent to that reserved for official libraries.
WARNING: There are people uploading DLLs into the DLSS Swapper / Manifest Builder repositories with comments like "this fixed it for me". DO NOT download these files, they are likely malware.

This represents the main risk factor. A DLL file contains executable code and, if modified by a malicious party, it can execute harmful code as soon as it is used. Among the scenarios considered by the developer is also the silent installation of a crypto-miner, capable of exploiting the PC’s resources without the user immediately noticing.
For this reason, the project creator has recommended avoiding the download of randomly uploaded DLLs by users, especially when accompanied by comments promising miraculous fixes or undocumented improvements. The suggestion is to rely exclusively on officially verified libraries or sources deemed trustworthy.
The developer also reminded that a fake DLSS Swapper site had previously appeared, created to mimic the authentic one. The only recommended source for downloading the application remains the official GitHub repository of the project.
Finally, another clarification was given for those hoping to gain new features simply by replacing a library. Changing the DLSS file cannot add hardware support that is absent on the GPU: if the graphics card is not compatible with a certain upscaling technology, replacing the DLL cannot enable it nor introduce features that require specific hardware characteristics.
