Reinstall Windows Without Flash Drives or Media, Just a Connection: Microsoft Unveils Cloud Rebuild
Microsoft has unveiled Cloud Rebuild, a new feature of Windows 11 that allows for a clean installation of the operating system directly from the cloud. The new feature aims to simplify recovery procedures in more complex cases and, as noted by Windows Central, it has been integrated into the latest preview build for Insider users.
The new mode performs a complete reinstallation of the operating system and effectively returns the computer to a like-new condition. During the process, both the Windows 11 image and the specific device drivers are automatically downloaded via Windows Update, ensuring that the PC becomes fully operational without any manual intervention.
This feature distinguishes Cloud Rebuild from the 'Reset this PC' function, which has been available in Windows for some time. The latter offers cloud download of the operating system but requires a functioning Windows installation and retrieves the drivers present locally on the device. In contrast, Cloud Rebuild does not depend on the state of an existing installation and can intervene even when the operating system is completely unusable, without the need for any external devices such as pendrives or optical media. The entire procedure takes place through the cloud, so it only requires an internet connection and concludes with a PC ready for use.
Another distinguishing element concerns personal data. Cloud Rebuild does not keep applications, files, or settings. The function indeed performs a completely clean reinstallation of the operating system along with the drivers, with the aim of returning the computer to a stable and reliable configuration.
Microsoft has already begun distributing Cloud Rebuild to users enrolled in the Windows Insider program through the latest preview builds of Windows 11. Availability for all users will follow, with a distribution expected in the coming months.
