Games Made by AI with a Prompt: What Does the Director of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Think?

The use of generative artificial intelligence for the development of video games is growing. AI tools can be used to speed up the work of developers, but, especially in the future, they might directly replace them. On this topic, Guillaume Broche, director of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, made some statements. The topic is very current and could become highly relevant in the future, as generative AI functions could become increasingly effective for development.

Are AI-Made Games Coming?

According to Broche, in the future, AI will be able to generate a video game from a simple initial prompt. This process could take just a few seconds. It is a realistic scenario, albeit still very distant, and we do not know what the actual quality of the project could be.

In any case, AI is increasingly used in the creative work sector, as confirmed by a recent survey on the topic, which highlighted how many companies do not easily admit to its use. Sandfall Interactive, the studio that created Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, does not use AI for creative work, at least according to Broche's statements, but only for some administrative and programming tasks. The director clarified that the use of AI "depends on the cases."

Let’s remember that Sandfall Interactive was accused of including AI-generated textures in the final version of the game. The software house quickly removed them, emphasizing that these were contents generated during the development phase and should have been replaced before the release.
