Switch 2, hardware update coming? A new LCD display for Nintendo's console

A first hardware revision of the Nintendo Switch 2 may already be in development. A new report, in fact, anticipates an upcoming update for the console’s display from the Japanese company.

However, this is not about an OLED version (which might debut in a few years as a mid-cycle upgrade). The update could still represent an interesting novelty for the console. It's worth noting that Nintendo has already confirmed a price increase for the Switch 2.

A new panel for the Switch 2?

From the available information, Nintendo may update its console with a new LCD panel featuring specifications similar to those of the current panel mounted on the console. The differences, therefore, could be minimal, at least regarding image rendering. The report confirms that "the circuit, the connector, and the exposed cables are significantly different".

As a result, the new panel could be associated with an optimization of the console’s operation with, we hypothesize, a potential drop in consumption due to the display that would ensure greater autonomy when used in portable mode.

Possible, but there is also no information suggesting that the new panel might guarantee a cost reduction, an essential element during this memory crisis.

Most likely, the new display will be integrated into the console’s production cycle without any particular announcements from Nintendo. In the coming weeks, new details may emerge regarding the matter, and in particular, the first confirmations about improvements related to the adoption of the panel should arrive.
