Xcode 26.6 Adds Google Gemini: Now There Are Three AI Providers in Apple's IDE
Apple has made public Xcode 26.6 (build 17F113), now available on the App Store: the most interesting novelty is support for Google Gemini as an integrated coding agent, which joins Anthropic Claude Agent and OpenAI Codex, the two already selectable providers. Developers can now choose from three distinct agent models directly within the development environment, without relying on external extensions.
The arrival is not entirely surprising. Gemini was already accessible to those using the Xcode 27 beta since June 10; with version 26.6, the same feature moves to the stable channel, available for those who do not want to work on a pre-release.
Alongside Gemini, Xcode 26.6 introduces support for the Agent Client Protocol, which opens the assistant to compatible third-party agents. This is the least flashy but potentially the most interesting change: instead of restricting the choice to the three preconfigured providers, Apple allows room for external agent tools, provided they adhere to the protocol.
Swift 6.3.3 and New SDKs
On the development tools front, the release on June 25 includes Swift 6.3.3 and the SDKs for iOS 26.5, iPadOS 26.5, tvOS 26.5, watchOS 26.5, visionOS 26.5, and macOS 26.5. The usual bug fixes and stability improvements complete the picture.
To update, just use the App Store: the assistant with the three providers is operational immediately in the stable version.
