The Incredible New Record of the Xiaomi YU7 GT: Driverless Lap in 10 Minutes at Nürburgring

Xiaomi continues to push its range of electric cars, and to promote the launch of the new YU7 GT, it has leveraged its recent collaboration with the Nürburgring circuit.

The 100% electric vehicle completed a full lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 10 minutes, 29 seconds, and 483 milliseconds, but there is a key detail to emphasize: it did so without a driver on board.

This time is exactly 3 minutes and 7 seconds slower than a human driver, but it represents the first benchmark for a test of this kind. The difference is mainly due to the nature of the software, which prioritizes safety over maximum performance. The rainy weather didn't help, and the video is still quite impressive:

From the video, it is also clear how the software has been calibrated to never exceed 140-150 km/h, even on straight sections where it could have pushed harder. The Xiaomi YU7 GT could clearly achieve significantly better times. It is based on a platform of nearly 900 volts, equipped with silicon carbide inverters, a 101 kWh battery, and a motor capable of delivering 738 kW, or about 1,003 HP, with a top speed of 300 km/h.
