Starmind Will Be the Name of SpaceX's Satellite Constellation Dedicated to Artificial Intelligence

SpaceX has recently gone public, increasing the wealth of Elon Musk. The company is investing in various programs, including the completely reusable rocket Starship, while also acquiring new companies like Cursor after having integrated xAI (and consequently the social platform X, previously Twitter) and continuing the deployment of the Starlink constellation. One of the next steps will also be launching the AI1 satellites (first generation) dedicated to Artificial Intelligence.

Recently, a request for the trademark Starmind related to the company xAI (and consequently to SpaceX, or SpaceXAI) was registered on the website of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This name, according to what Elon Musk wrote in a post on the social platform X, will be that of the new satellite constellation dedicated to Artificial Intelligence. The deployment will occur in the coming years and will be closely linked to the operations of Starship due to the size of the satellites.

Starmind could consist of up to a million satellites in various orbits, utilizing some of the technology already employed for Starlink. Both Elon Musk and Gwynne Shotwell (president and COO of SpaceX) stated that creating satellites for high-speed and low-latency satellite internet is a more complicated task compared to a satellite that is part of an advanced computing system. One of the main challenges will be managing the heat produced, but SpaceX might employ large radiators and optimized cooling circuits. However, it will be necessary to wait for the launch of the first units in 2027 to understand how they will perform in space.

While Starmind is being designed, SpaceX is looking for dedicated AI professionals, as reported by an analysis of the Job Analytics database from GlobalData. According to reports, the company is seeking to fill various positions within software development such as "AI Engineer, Platform Infrastructure, Special Programs," "AI Engineer, Special Programs," and "AI Engineer, Special Programs - Top Secret Clearance." These roles focus on designing and implementing artificial intelligence features, such as models, APIs, and tools dedicated to U.S. federal agencies.
