Kobo Clara Colour 16GB at €138 or Paperwhite 16GB at €124 and 32GB at €149? The Doubts, the Nice Ones
The Prime Day finally brings two of the best e-readers on the market at very interesting prices. We are talking about Kobo Clara Colour and Kindle Paperwhite, both on sale and with two different reading philosophies: on one side the color and versatility of the Kobo ecosystem, and on the other the reliability and established experience of Amazon's Paperwhite.
Let's look at the prices: the fixed price for the Kobo is €138, while for the Paperwhite there are two versions: €124.99 for 16GB with ads and €139 or €149 for 32GB without ads (it's better to choose one of these). The Paperwhite comes in all colors; we’ll show just a couple. The €149 model is the Signature Edition, which features wireless charging and automatic brightness.

The Clara Color is smaller and lighter: 6", E-Ink Kaleido 3, 300 ppi (text) / ~150 ppi (color), 166g, while the Paperwhite is 6.8", E Ink Carta 1300, 300 ppi only in black/white, 215g. The Clara Color has a front light with color temperature adjustment (warm/cool) plus a color screen, while the Paperwhite has the same light adjustment but only in black and white. The Paperwhite's battery lasts a bit longer: the color backlighting consumes more on the Clara.
In terms of format compatibility, the previous issues on the Kindle are gone; now everyone reads everything: EPUB, EPUB3, PDF, MOBI, CBZ, CBR, HTML, TXT, RTF, etc. The Clara Color makes a lot of sense if normal reading is complemented by the reading of comics, manga, color PDFs, or illustrated content (although not with the saturation and color intensity we are used to on smartphones, PCs, and tablets, of course).
