watchOS 27 Will Not Arrive on Recent Apple Watch Models: Blame the AI

The new watchOS 27 will mark a turning point for the Apple Watch lineup, following Apple's renovation program, which is increasingly focused on the integration of artificial intelligence. This update will not arrive on relatively recent models such as the Series 6, 7, 8, SE 2, and the first Ultra. This is a significant change for Apple, which has cut support after just a few years. Models launched in 2022, in fact, will not receive watchOS 27 but will continue to be supported only with security updates.

Let's remember that this is not the only controversial choice by Apple. Popular models like the iPhone 17, which is recording record sales, will not be able to access all AI functions due to reduced RAM.

Is it all the fault of AI? This decision is related to the necessity of supporting artificial intelligence and Siri AI. The confirmation comes from David Clark, the director of watchOS software engineering, who emphasized: "We absolutely wanted to ensure that the experience with Siri was unique and consistent, whether I choose to ask a question to Siri through my wrist device or interact with Siri via the phone in hand. We wanted it to feel like one Siri, with access to user data and able to personalize the experience consistently."

Apple, as highlighted by Clark, believes that the Apple Watch is the most convenient way to interact with Siri AI and wants to push its users toward this mode of interaction. Consequently, cutting support for recent models that lack sufficient hardware capabilities to handle some requests was a necessary choice. Therefore, anyone with an Apple Watch launched before 2022 will need to change smartwatches to fully leverage software features and AI.
