Apple has reorganized its launch plans for the second generation of its ultra-thin smartphone, iPhone Air, postponing its debut to spring 2027 to introduce significant hardware modifications. Some rumors published by Bloomberg and The Information revealed that the Cupertino company has decided to not follow the classic annual cadence that would have seen the device released in the fall of 2026. This choice arose from the lackluster sales data of the first version and customer feedback regarding specific technical shortcomings.
The engineers at the California giant are focusing on two main aspects to update the terminal while keeping the overall aesthetic unchanged. The first element concerns the rear camera system. Current prototypes show a dual-camera configuration, as opposed to the single 48MP sensor system present in the current generation. Specifically, the parent company plans to pair a second ultra-wide lens with the primary standard optics. However, the integration of a telephoto zoom lens is currently excluded. This lack was identified as the primary reason for dissatisfaction among buyers of the first model.
