GTA 6 could record an impressive number of copies sold at launch
GTA 6 will be available starting from November 19, 2026 with a launch for console versions, while the PC version will be available only later. According to some estimates from the investment bank Piper Sandler, the launch will be record-breaking, at least in terms of copies sold.
A record launch for GTA 6?
GTA 6 could be the star of a truly remarkable commercial launch, with over 45 million units sold. This is a very high estimate that has been calculated in a quite particular way. Analysts have considered the traffic of the subreddit r/GTA6. The model is based on the estimated number of weekly visitors to r/GTA6 at the time of launch and the number of weekly visitors to the subreddit about five months before the launch, also taking into account the ratio between subreddit visitors and launch sales of other major titles.
Reaching the target of 45 million copies sold would allow Rockstar to recover the development costs (almost $3 billion), especially if the price is set higher than the ‘standard’ price of the latest AAA games. Such a result would also provide a significant boost to the revenues of Microsoft and, especially, Sony, which with the PS5 will play a fundamental role in the global spread of GTA 6.
The arrival of the PC version will then give an additional boost to the growth of the game, ready to make history in the video game industry, at least in terms of commercial results.
