A YouTuber Wants to Sue Samsung: The Replacement of a Faulty 990 Pro SSD Becomes a Case
A well-known YouTuber in the technology sector, Louis Rossmann, has announced the possibility of initiating a lawsuit against Samsung following a dispute related to the warranty management of a 4 TB 990 Pro SSD. The device, purchased less than two years ago, has stopped working even though it was still covered by a five-year warranty.
The case arises in a context characterized by a significant increase in the prices of NAND Flash and DRAM memory, due to the growing demand in the artificial intelligence sector. This has led to a significant increase in the cost of high-performance SSDs, which today can be worth much more than at the time of purchase.
According to reports, the defective model was paid for approximately $330, while its current market value has reached about $850. This difference has made the management of the refund offered by Samsung particularly controversial.
The company allegedly stated that it does not have identical replacement units, nor did it offer an equivalent product with the same storage capacity. The proposed solution was exclusively a refund of the original price paid at the time of purchase.
The technical issue found on the unit is said to be related to a malfunction of the controller or firmware, which initially led to a significant slowdown in performance before complete failure of the device. For Rossmann, this situation fully falls within the terms of the warranty and should be resolved with an appropriate replacement or a refund consistent with the current value of the product.
The YouTuber has therefore asked Samsung for two possible solutions: a replacement with an identical or equivalent SSD or a refund based on the updated market price. He has also set a deadline of 60 days for a satisfactory response, after which he stated that he would proceed with legal action in the Travis County Court in Texas.
