Visually, the interface has undergone a restyling with Cube icons, Misty Glass-style Control Center, new animated wallpapers, and redesigned fingerprint sensor animations. The DT Star D+ glass is not the latest generation Gorilla Glass but offers adequate scratch resistance for everyday use. The smartphone is also packaged with a pre-applied protective film, which performed particularly well in our tests against common wear and scratches.

Battery Life
The 6550mAh battery is the strongest feature of the realme 16 5G, not only for its absolute capacity. The smartphone offers around a day and a half of real usage—even moderately—inside a device that weighs significantly less than the all-important 200 grams.
Data provided by realme indicate 45.14 hours of standby with the screen on, 10.80 hours of MLBB at max graphics, 26.83 hours of Instagram scrolling, and 21.84 hours of WhatsApp chatting at 350 nits, plus 118.05 hours of music playback via Spotify with wired earphones at volume level 10.
Our overall test, performed with display brightness set at 200 nits and a script simulating human interactions on web pages, video streaming, and alternating sessions of CPU and GPU benchmarks, concluded in 855 minutes, a result that places the smartphone in the mid-high range of the entire category.
Camera
The camera system on the realme 16 5G focuses entirely on the 50+50MP duo (front and rear) as a unique offering in this price segment. No direct competitor, according to realme, provides both a 50MP front sensor and a 50MP Sony IMX 852 at the back concurrently; however, the setup lacks versatility as it offers neither an ultra-wide angle nor a telephoto lens.
The photography software is called LumaColor IMAGE and shares the same algorithms as the 16 Pro series: this includes the AI Color & Portrait Algorithm for managing skin tones and distortion, the Imaging RawHDR Algorithm for managing lights and shadows, and the AI Facial Feature Beautification Algorithm with ethnic recognition to optimize face shape, hairline, and cheekbones consistent with the subject’s physiological characteristics.

The Flux Engine and the 72 months of guaranteed fluidity are medium-to-long-term promises that can only be verified over time, but the premises seem to be of excellent quality based on our test which lasted several days. Battery life is also at an excellent level, with this characteristic representing—along with the device's lightweight—the main reason for purchasing this smartphone.
The main limitations are equally clear: no ultra-wide angle, no telephoto, Wi-Fi 5 instead of Wi-Fi 6 (a shortcoming that starts to weigh in 2026), and a Mali G57 MC2 GPU that is not the optimal choice for those playing demanding titles at high settings.

For those seeking a smartphone to keep for three or four years, with battery life lasting a full day, a chassis resistant to hot, high-pressure water, and high-quality main camera, this realme 16 5G presents a serious candidate. However, those who desire full photographic versatility will need to look elsewhere (though spending a bit more).
