Kingdom Hearts 4, a new gameplay trailer revealed at Nintendo Direct 2026

Kingdom Hearts 4 made a surprise return during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct, offering fans the first real look at the gameplay of the new chapter in the series. The appearance took place in the final stages of the event, with Sora reappearing to showcase the Keyblade combat, accompanied by Donald and Goofy.

During the presentation, it was confirmed that the game will also be available on Nintendo Switch 2 at launch, although without a specific date or defined timeframe. Square Enix also announced that the title will be released simultaneously on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

The official game description indicates that Kingdom Hearts 4 is a new action RPG chapter where Sora explores the mysterious world of Quadratum, meeting new characters and facing new challenges. The protagonist embarks on a journey across different realms, discovering new abilities and confronting unprecedented threats.

The game was first announced in 2022 during the twentieth anniversary of the series, with a brief gameplay segment showing Sora battling a massive Heartless in a setting very different from traditional Disney worlds. After that announcement, information remained extremely limited until the 2026 presentation.

Therefore, the new gameplay shown during the Nintendo Direct represents the most significant update on the project in recent years, providing a clearer view of the combat system and the game's overall atmosphere, although without revealing further details on a release date.

During the same event, Square Enix also announced a new collection titled Kingdom Hearts Collection, set for release in 2026. The package will include several chapters of the saga, including the collections HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts 3 with the additional content Re Mind. Some titles will also be available for separate purchase, while a demo of Kingdom Hearts 3 is already available on the eShop.
