EssilorLuxottica to Produce Smart Glasses in Italy from 2027: New Industrial Hub in Veneto
EssilorLuxottica has announced an important step in its industrial strategy related to wearable devices. Starting in 2027, the group will initiate its first production activities dedicated to smart eyewear in Italy, strengthening the country's role within its plans for technological and manufacturing development.
The initiative will take place at the Agordo plant, in the province of Belluno, where the first production lines dedicated to intelligent glasses will be established. The project has been defined in collaboration with trade unions and represents an evolution of the shared path initiated in recent years through the company’s supplemental contract and subsequent programmatic agreements signed between the parties.
To make this new industrial phase possible, the company has planned significant investments aimed at purchasing equipment and machinery, as well as training and developing the necessary skills to manage highly innovative production. The initial goal will be to experiment and consolidate production processes dedicated to a category of products that is set to become increasingly relevant in the global technological market.
The Strategic Impact of Essilux Production in Italy
According to President and CEO Francesco Milleri, the decision represents a choice of strong value both from a strategic and an industrial perspective. The project aims to create an ecosystem capable of supporting innovation, production quality, and speed of execution, elements deemed fundamental to compete in a rapidly growing sector.
Milleri also emphasized that the success of the initiative will depend on the collaboration between all involved parties. Companies, workers, trade unions, and institutions will be called to contribute to the construction of an integrated system capable of enhancing advanced technologies, specialized skills, and an efficient production chain.
The choice to localize the production of smart glasses in Agordo also confirms the centrality of the Veneto region in EssilorLuxottica’s strategies. The investment aims not only to expand the group’s production capacity but also to strengthen its leadership in a sector considered among the most promising of the entire technology industry.
