Decoder Bonus: up to 70% discount with the new aid, here's how it will work

A new Decoder Bonus is on the way, following a scheme similar to last year's Appliance Bonus and the previous TV Bonus (launched to facilitate the transition to the new digital terrestrial television). Let's summarize the characteristics of the aid, which, through an invoice discount, should guarantee savings of a few dozen euros on the purchase of a new decoder to be paired with a TV that is not compatible with the new transmission standards.

A new bonus

The Decoder Bonus will be provided as an invoice discount by the seller and can be requested through an online platform, from which to download the voucher to present at the time of purchase.

The regulatory framework is included in a decree from the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy registered with the Court of Auditors on May 27. Currently, there is no information available on the availability.

Italian citizens will be able to obtain a financial contribution of up to 30 euros for digital terrestrial decoders and up to 70 euros for satellite decoders. In any case, the bonus cannot exceed 70% of the price of the chosen decoder.

From a technical standpoint, the digital terrestrial decoder must comply with the new DVB-T2 standard and the HEVC Main 10 encoding system, while the satellite decoder must be equipped with a DVB-S2 tuner and 10-bit HEVC video compression standard.

The fund for this aid will amount to 28.8 million euros. Each family will be able to receive only one contribution, and the disbursement of the bonus will be subject to verifying the payment of the RAI fee.

Further details regarding the initiative will arrive in the coming days.
