Until Dawn 2 Announced by Sony: New Story and New Cast for Firesprite's Interactive Horror
During the latest State of Play, Sony unexpectedly unveiled Until Dawn 2, a new chapter in the narrative horror series that debuted in 2015 thanks to the work of Supermassive Games. The project is now in the hands of Firesprite, a British studio that became part of the PlayStation Studios in 2021, which on this occasion is offering a completely independent experience from the original episode.
The new chapter will maintain the formula that made the series famous: a narrative heavily influenced by the player's decisions, with events, character survival, and story conclusions destined to change based on choices made during the game.
The plot will revolve around a group of ghost hunters managing "Dead True," a popular channel dedicated to the paranormal. According to what the developers have previewed, the protagonists have built their notoriety by staging alleged supernatural phenomena, without ever encountering anything truly inexplicable. However, the situation will change radically when the group faces genuine otherworldly threats, transforming a simple entertainment activity into a fight for survival.
Firesprite promises a narrative structure rich in branching paths and indirect consequences. The so-called "butterfly effect," a central element in the first Until Dawn, will return to influence the course of events: seemingly insignificant decisions could substantially alter the development of the plot and the fate of the characters.
The sequel will also continue to feature a cast of recognizable actors, tasked with portraying the protagonists and antagonists of the story. The first trailer shown during the presentation has already provided a glimpse of the horror atmosphere and new settings.
For Firesprite, this is a particularly important project. The studio, known primarily for its collaboration on productions like Horizon Call of the Mountain and for supporting other teams, is indeed preparing to publish what can be considered the first major title developed independently since Sony's acquisition.
Currently, no specific release date has been announced. Sony has only confirmed that Until Dawn 2 will arrive in 2027 exclusively for PlayStation 5.
