Control Resonant will arrive on September 24: Dylan Faden is the protagonist of the new chapter
Remedy Entertainment has announced that Control Resonant will be available on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S starting from September 24. The studio released a new trailer dedicated to the narrative component, offering a deeper look into the setting and events that will backdrop the sequel.
The new adventure takes place in a Manhattan profoundly altered by paranormal phenomena. The city appears transformed by a mysterious resonance that modifies reality itself: buildings and structures defy the normal laws of physics, while the streets are traversed by hostile entities generated by this new anomaly. The footage hints at some elements of the threat that players will face throughout the campaign.
One of the main novelties concerns the protagonist. While in the first Control the narrative focus was represented by Jesse Faden, in Resonant the playable role shifts to his brother Dylan. This choice allows developers to tell the story from a different perspective, focusing on a character who was previously presented as an antagonist and a central figure in the most dramatic events of the narrative universe of the series.
Throughout the adventure, Dylan will explore the city facing creatures and hostile forces, progressively developing new abilities and upgrading his shapeshifting weapon, called Aberrant. Remedy explained that it has deliberately kept information about Jesse's journey vague, allowing more room for the brother’s evolution and his relationship with past events.
According to what the developers illustrated, the fates of the two brothers will still be closely intertwined. The narrative arcs of Dylan and Jesse influence each other and still represent the core of the story. Although Jesse remains a fundamental figure within the game universe, it will be Dylan who directly leads the events of the new chapter.
Particular attention is also given to the character's past. Dylan carries the weight of the consequences of the events narrated in the first Control. As a child, he was taken in by the Federal Bureau of Control, an organization that controlled every aspect of his life. The experiments and subsequent events led to a series of tragedies culminating in the paranormal disaster that struck the Oldest House, headquarters of the agency.
On that occasion, Dylan was overwhelmed by the Whistle, a paranormal force responsible for one of the most severe incidents ever faced by the Bureau. The events caused the deaths of hundreds of people and were only halted thanks to Jesse's intervention. After being freed from the Whistle's influence, Dylan was trapped in a coma for several years.
At the beginning of Control Resonant, the character awakens in a world that he no longer recognizes. Jesse, the only reference point in his existence, has vanished, and Dylan must come to terms with both his past and a new crisis that threatens humanity. The search for his sister and the definition of his identity will represent some of the central themes of the narrative.
Remedy has also confirmed the opening of pre-orders. Users choosing the Digital Deluxe Edition will be able to access the game 48 hours early compared to the official launch date.
