Anthropic Surpasses OpenAI in Valuation and Revenue Thanks to Explosive Growth of Claude
Anthropic has officially surpassed OpenAI in both financial valuation and annualized revenue, solidifying its position as one of the main players in the artificial intelligence sector. The company has announced a new Series H funding round of $65 billion, reaching a post-money valuation of $965 billion.
Just a few months ago, OpenAI reported raising $122 billion with a valuation of $852 billion. Anthropic, on the other hand, had closed a Series G round in February 2026 for $30 billion with a valuation of $380 billion. The growth recorded in recent months has therefore been extremely rapid.
According to the company, the strong increase in the use of Claude by businesses around the world has pushed annualized revenues past $47 billion in early May. By April, Anthropic had reported a run-rate of over $30 billion, up from around $9 billion recorded at the end of 2025. At that time, OpenAI was around $24 billion in annualized revenue.
Anthropic, OpenAI, and the Funding Issue
The new funding will be used to support research and development, expand the computational capacity needed to meet the demand for Claude, and strengthen corporate products and partnerships. Anthropic also specified that the round includes $15 billion in investments previously promised by hyperscalers, including $5 billion from Amazon.
The funding was led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital, with participation from several other international investors such as Capital Group, Coatue, D1 Capital Partners, GIC, ICONIQ, and XN.
Anthropic also announced the entry of new strategic partners related to hardware infrastructure: Micron, Samsung, and SK hynix. These companies will play a key role in providing memory, storage, and components necessary to support the growing computational demand of advanced AI platforms.
