Warhorse Studios Promises a Deeply Immersive Lord of the Rings Game with Strong Narrative Focus
Warhorse Studios has shared new details about its highly anticipated RPG set in Middle-earth, the universe created by J.R.R. Tolkien. During a recent live stream dedicated to the community, communications director Tobias Stolz-Zwilling discussed the studio's new projects, including a new adventure related to Kingdom Come and the new open-world game set in the world of The Lord of the Rings.
According to Stolz-Zwilling, the team is extremely excited to work on the famous fantasy setting, describing the project as a true "passion project." He explained that the studio has a very skilled team motivated to explore all the possibilities offered by Tolkien's universe.
Warhorse Studios aims to create a "deeply immersive" RPG, characterized by a lively and dynamic world. Stolz-Zwilling stated that players will be able to meet interesting characters, visit memorable places, and experience a story with a strong narrative component, an element that represents one of the central points of the project.
Warhorse will draw on the experience gained from Kingdom Come Deliverance for this Lord of the Rings game. The communications lead also emphasized how the experience gained from Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has prepared the team for the development of even more ambitious new RPGs. He assured that, regardless of the chosen setting, the studio will continue to develop games following its own creative philosophy.
Stolz-Zwilling recalled that Warhorse Studios has a unique approach to building RPGs and reiterated a statement made in the past: the studio's desire to become "the new kings of RPGs." While recognizing that this phrase may seem provocative, he explained that the team strongly believes in the formula developed with the Kingdom Come chapters, a formula that he believes players greatly appreciate.
Warhorse Studios officially announced both the new Kingdom Come project and the new open-world RPG in Middle-earth at the beginning of the month through social media. According to reports from the Embracer group in a recent financial report, the new game set in the Kingdom Come universe is expected to arrive between April 2027 and March 2028. It was also confirmed that the new title will not use the subtitle Deliverance, implying the presence of completely new characters and stories.
