4K up to 360 Hz: Samsung Presents the Fastest QD-OLED Panel in the World, but Without Compromises
Samsung Display has announced the development of the first 31.5-inch QD-OLED panel capable of simultaneously combining 4K resolution and a 360Hz refresh rate. The company will officially showcase the new display during Computex 2026 in Taipei, scheduled from June 2 to 5.
Until now, the industry has had to choose between high definition and extreme refresh rates. 4K monitors typically maxed out at 240Hz, while products beyond 360Hz used lower resolutions, often QHD, which has represented the best compromise between detail level and high refresh rate so far.
The reason relates to the amount of data the panel has to process every second: increasing the resolution and refresh rate raises the load on the driving circuit and the pixel loading times.
Samsung Display stated that it has overcome these limitations through optimization of the panel circuit and driving system, producing one of the highest-spec QD-OLED monitors ever developed.
Among the most interesting features is the Dual Mode, which allows dynamic modification of resolution and refresh rate based on the usage scenario. The panel can switch to Full HD resolution without changing Windows or application settings, thus reaching a maximum refresh rate of 680Hz, a feature designed especially for fans of competitive FPS gaming where responsiveness is fundamental.
The new panel has also received certification from VESA DisplayHDR True Black 600, a standard that evaluates HDR brightness and black quality. To achieve this level, the display must ensure blacks lower than 0.0005 nits and a peak brightness of at least 600 nits with APL at 10%. This figure exceeds the True Black 500 certification, which until now was considered the benchmark in the premium segment of self-emissive monitors.
Samsung has also introduced a new sub-pixel structure called V-stripe. The vertical arrangement of the red, green, and blue sub-pixels improves edge definition of text, a particularly useful aspect for those using the monitor not only for gaming but also for productivity, programming, graphic design, and content creation.
The company confirmed it is already in negotiations with over ten global clients for the supply of the new 31.5-inch 4K 360Hz panel. Mass production is expected to begin in the second half of the year.
"Many customers have described the new 31.5-inch 4K 360Hz monitor as an almost perfect product that can offer everything consumers expect from a high-end monitor, including ultra-high resolution, ultra-fast refresh rate, high brightness, and improved readability," said Brad Jung, Vice President and Head of Marketing for the Large Display Marketing Team at Samsung Display.
