Ferrari Luce, Montezemolo: 'I hope the Prancing Horse is removed from that car'

Luca Cordero di Montezemolo does not hide his disappointment about the new Ferrari Luce, the first electric model of the Prancing Horse.

"If I had to say what I think, I would harm Ferrari. There's a risk of destroying a myth, and I'm very sorry about that. I hope the Prancing Horse is at least removed from that car."
The former Ferrari president expressed these words on the sidelines of the Confindustria assembly, presented at the Quirinale in front of President Mattarella and John Elkann.

Technical Specifications of the Luce

The Ferrari Luce measures 5.00 m in length, 2.00 m in width, and 1.53 m in height, with a wheelbase of 2.96 m. It is the first Ferrari with four doors and five seats in the brand's history, a sort of family Ferrari, which could contradict tradition. It features four permanent magnet synchronous electric motors, one for each wheel, with a total power output of 1,050 CV (772 kW) in Launch Control and a torque of 990 Nm. The 122 kWh battery pack at 800 V ensures a range of over 530 km and supports ultra-fast charging up to 350 kW. Performance includes 0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 6.8 seconds, and a top speed of over 310 km/h. The active suspension is derived from the F80, with an independent rear steering axle. The trunk offers 597 liters of space.

Design by LoveFrom and Interior by Jony Ive

The exterior and interior design have been entrusted to LoveFrom, the studio founded by Jony Ive (former Apple designer, creator of the iPhone) and Marc Newson. According to some analysts, "it looks like a mix between Honda Accord EV and Tesla Model 3." Additionally, it is mentioned that this represents "the translation of Ferrari's new strategy that seeks to emulate Apple's design." The interiors follow a rational approach developed at LoveFrom's San Francisco office.

Price from 550,000 euros and Stock Market Collapse

The list price is set at 550,000 euros, well above the Testarossa (460,000 euros) and the average Ferrari price in the first quarter of 2026 (453,000 euros). First deliveries are expected towards the end of 2026. The reaction in Piazza Affari was immediate: the stock collapsed by 6% to 285.80 euros at the opening, with a loss of about 5 billion euros in capitalization. Mediobanca analysts predict that the Luce will remain a niche offering, with about 1% of total volumes. Equita adds that "a high-priced electric model, even if it’s a 'range' model, will not generate high volumes."

"This is definitely a car that at least the Chinese won't copy," Montezemolo emphasizes further. Ferrari has already opened orders, but the market remains cautious about a model that marks the entry of the Prancing Horse into fully electric territory. There are also many commentators who view such a radical change positively, with Ferrari not hiding behind it and explicitly stating that it is a revolution compared to the series tradition, due to the five seats and perhaps the more electric car shapes (possibly dictated by the need to accommodate the large battery?) than the traditional Ferrari.
