Epic Games Announces Unreal Engine 6 and the First Game to Benefit from the New Engine
Epic Games has officially announced Unreal Engine 6, the new evolution of the famous graphics engine used widely in the video game and film industries. The presentation took place during the Paris Major of the championship dedicated to Rocket League, a choice that surprised many fans considering that the title used for the reveal was not the company's famous battle royale.
During the event, a short video was shown that included gameplay sequences, cinematic shots, and visually enhanced models of the game's cars. The teaser spoke of a "new era" and a "new engine", concluding with the first official appearance of the Unreal Engine 6 logo.
The announcement comes four years after the debut of Unreal Engine 5 and twelve years after the release of the fourth version. Rocket League, on the other hand, still uses Unreal Engine 3, a technology dating back to the Xbox 360 era. For this reason, the transition to the new engine is considered by many to be a huge change, almost comparable to a true sequel.

Further Details on the Presentation of Unreal Engine 6
Epic has previously shown a preference for continuous updates to its live service games rather than creating separate chapters. Fortnite transitioned from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5 without interrupting its digital ecosystem and internal economy.
The presentation of Unreal Engine 6 represents an important event for the entire video game industry. Epic's engine is indeed one of the most used tools by both large studios and independent developers. In recent years, even companies historically tied to proprietary engines have chosen to adopt Unreal Engine for their projects. Additionally, the technology is also utilized in film and visual effects production.
Despite the commercial and technical success of Unreal Engine 5, the engine has received criticisms mainly related to PC performance. Many players report optimization issues in various recent titles, while Fortnite is often cited as an example of particularly stable implementation. Even under the teaser for Unreal Engine 6, user comments have appeared asking Epic to prioritize fixing the issues of the fifth version first.
