Unkept Promises for AI: Apple Under Investigation in Another Country

Apple Intelligence

Currently, Apple has not delivered on its promises regarding the arrival of new features related to the use of artificial intelligence. In the months following the announcement, however, Apple was unable to complete development and meet the publicly announced goals. The decision to launch a marketing campaign, promising the arrival of AI functions that were never released, has turned into a real own goal for Apple.

The Cupertino company was forced to pay $250 million to settle a class action lawsuit in the United States related to the failure to release updates concerning Apple Intelligence. Meanwhile, the new version of Siri with AI is on its way, thanks to an agreement with Google.

A New Front in Brazil

This week, another front has opened for Apple. In Brazil, the consumer protection authority in the state of Rio de Janeiro has launched a procedure to investigate potential violations by Apple.

The cause of the investigation is the same as before: users may have been encouraged to purchase a new device (specifically referring to the iPhone 16 series) with the promise of new features related to Apple Intelligence.

From the reconstruction of the events in recent days, it seems that Apple received notification of the investigation on May 8. The company has 20 days to respond to the authority's requests for clarification. Therefore, by the end of the month, Apple will need to clarify the situation. The risk is that the company might be forced into another settlement, paying tens or hundreds of millions of dollars to finally close the issue.
