xAI Launches Grok Build: The New AI Agent for Coding Challenges Claude Code and OpenAI

The Company

xAI has announced the debut of Grok Build, a new AI agent dedicated to software development that aims to compete directly with established solutions like Claude Code. The service is currently available in a beta phase and is reserved for users of the SuperGrok Heavy plan, a premium offering costing $300 per month.

According to the company's announcement, Grok Build is designed as a "coding agent" accompanied by a CLI interface intended for professional software engineering activities and complex programming workflows. Interested users can install the beta from xAI's official website and log in with their account to start using the service.

The initiative represents another attempt by xAI to narrow the gap with the leading competitors in the generative AI sector. In recent months, the founder and CEO Elon Musk has publicly admitted that the company has fallen behind compared to firms like OpenAI and Anthropic in the field of AI tools dedicated to programming.

Musk has also stated his intention to rebuild xAI "from the ground up", following the departure of several co-founders from the company. According to reports from the U.S. press, internal teams have been asked to work specifically to bring Grok to performance levels comparable to Claude in key coding and reasoning tasks.
