Capcom Records Its Best Year Ever with Over 59 Million Games Sold
Capcom has announced that it achieved the best economic results in its history for the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2026. The Japanese publisher set new highs for both revenue and consolidated operating income, confirming a steady growth that has continued for nine consecutive years. Over the last twelve months, the company has distributed a total of 59.07 million video games, significantly surpassing the 51.87 million recorded in the previous fiscal year.
This marks the highest volume of sales ever reached by Capcom in a single fiscal year, further consolidating the company's position in the global market. The main driver of this performance has been the Resident Evil franchise. In particular, Resident Evil Requiem, released in February, had an immediate and significant impact, approaching 7 million copies sold by the end of March, just a few weeks after its commercial debut.
Capcom highlighted that 83.7% of the units sold were generated by so-called catalog titles, meaning games that had already been released in previous years but are still in high demand among the public. This figure confirms the strength of the company's historical portfolio and the ability of its most well-known series to maintain strong appeal over time.
The strength of Capcom is currently unprecedented for the company. Another central element of the report is digital distribution. 93% of the video games sold in the last fiscal year were purchased in download format, a share that demonstrates how the market is increasingly leaning towards digital and how this mode has become the primary channel for Capcom.
Looking to the future, the company plans to continue its growth trajectory. For the fiscal year ending in March 2027, Capcom estimates revenues of 210 billion yen and an operating income of 83 billion yen. If these forecasts are confirmed, the company will achieve its tenth consecutive year of record profits.
On the commercial front, the stated goal is to further increase sales to 65 million games, equal to an increase of about 10% compared to the just-concluded year. This milestone will be supported by several important releases, including Pragmata, which has already sold 2 million copies in the first weeks, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and Mega Man: Dual Override, scheduled for 2027. To strengthen the presence of the Capcom brand, the second season of the anime Devil May Cry and the Street Fighter movie will also be released.
