PS6, uncertainty continues: Sony has not yet decided on the price and release date due to memory issues

The development of the PS6 continues, but the memory crisis currently represents a major factor of uncertainty for the entire market and for Sony itself. The company does not know for sure when the launch will occur and, especially, what the final price of the console will be. Recall that at the beginning of 2026, the first confirmations of a delay in the PS6 due to the memory crisis emerged.

An uncertain future

An update on the future of the PS6 has arrived, in recent hours, directly from Sony's President and CEO, Hiroki Totoki. During the presentation of the last quarter’s results, Totoki analyzed the current situation, highlighting that for now "we prefer to observe and closely follow the situation."

Everything revolves around the memory crisis. Sony must ensure sufficient supplies to meet the demand for the upcoming generation console and, at the same time, needs to find a way to procure memories at the best possible price. The crisis, which could last for a long time, will make it very complicated for the Japanese company to find the right balance between available stocks and price. To compensate for the increase in component costs, Sony will try to enhance profits in other ways, proposing the disk drive only as an external accessory or even increasing the prices of games (to boost the commissions obtained from digital content).

The development of the PS6 is at a standstill. The console would likely be almost ready for launch under normal market conditions, but the current crisis is creating uncertainty regarding both the release date and its price, a crucial element for success.
