Nintendo Switch 2 Price Increases from September 1, 2026 in Europe, USA, and Canada: Here are the New Prices
Nintendo has announced the new prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 for major global markets, revealing an increase that will take effect on September 1, 2026, for Europe, the United States, and Canada. This decision was anticipated; recent rumors had suggested pressure from shareholders for the Kyoto-based company to adjust the console's prices, launched on June 5, 2025, with a starting price of $449.99 in the USA and €469.99 in Europe.
These prices are clearly the result of the impact of rising memory costs, from RAM to storage, which have surged in recent months due to production issues linked to the demand from AI data centers.
New Prices by Market
In Europe, the Nintendo Switch 2 will retail for €499.99 through the My Nintendo Store, an increase of €30 from the current €469.99. In the United States, the new suggested price will be $499.99, while in Canada, it will rise from $629.99 to $679.99 CAD. Notably, with this update, the base price of the console in the USA will reach exactly what was initially reserved for the bundle with Mario Kart World.
For Japan, the changes are more complex and will take effect earlier on May 25, 2026. The Japanese-only Switch 2 model will increase from ¥49,980 to ¥59,980, while the multilingual model distributed through My Nintendo Store will remain unchanged at ¥69,980. The entire Switch 1 family will also see price hikes in the Japanese market: Nintendo Switch OLED will rise from ¥37,980 to ¥47,980, the standard Nintendo Switch from ¥32,978 to ¥43,980, and the Switch Lite from ¥21,978 to ¥29,980. So far, no similar updates have been confirmed for Switch 1 models in western markets.
In Japan, Nintendo also announced a price adjustment for the Nintendo Switch Online subscription. The annual individual plan will increase from ¥2,400 to ¥3,000, while the plan with the additional package will go from ¥4,900 to ¥5,900. According to the official communication, the revision aims to align Japanese costs with those already in effect in other markets. It is not currently confirmed whether similar changes will affect European and North American subscribers, but the situation deserves attention.
In the note released by the company, Nintendo justifies the increases citing "changes in market conditions" and an overall assessment of its business performance at the global level. The company also expressed regret for the impact that such changes may have on consumers and other business stakeholders.
Nintendo's move fits into a broader context that has seen other major players in the console industry proceed with price revisions. Sony has increased the cost of PlayStation 5 in several markets, and Xbox had previously made similar adjustments. However, the extent of the increase applied by Nintendo is more contained compared to that recorded by competitors, particularly for the European market where the increase is limited to €30.
