Microsoft Reveals a Possible New Xbox Interface Designed to Unify Consoles, PCs, Cloud Gaming, and Portable Devices
Microsoft may be working on a new evolution of the Xbox interface designed to provide a more uniform experience across consoles, Windows PCs, cloud gaming, and portable devices. Initial signs emerged during the Xbox conference at the Game Developers Conference last March, but at that time, the images displayed did not clearly distinguish any changes from the current interface.
The situation has changed following the release of a new official video related to the event, which offers a more detailed look at the project. In the footage, Jason Ronald, vice president of the Xbox division dedicated to the new generation, openly discusses the need to make the user experience more consistent across the different devices within the Microsoft ecosystem.
According to Ronald, many players have pointed out certain fragmentation in the use of Xbox services on different platforms, with interfaces and interaction modes not always aligned between consoles, PCs, and cloud gaming. For this reason, the team has been working behind the scenes to create an experience that is immediately recognizable and consistent, regardless of the device used.
Changes to the Xbox Dashboard and Other Device Interfaces
The images shown in the video suggest some modifications to the current Xbox dashboard. The main screen of the console appears slightly revised, with the user profile moved to the upper right corner and a different organization of advertising spaces at the bottom of the interface. The same graphic style is also exhibited on a portable gaming device, while the version intended for the PC seems to be very close to the recent interface introduced for Xbox Cloud Gaming.
In previous months, Microsoft had already begun experimenting with a design closer to the console experience for cloud gaming, introducing new animations, a renewed library, and an aesthetic characterized by rounder elements. The new images seem to indicate that this setup could also be extended to the Xbox app for Windows.
However, Ronald specified that the interface will not be identical across all devices. Microsoft is adapting the experience based on elements such as screen size or available control methods while still maintaining a coherent visual structure. During the same developer update, Microsoft also showcased what could be a new integrated Xbox store on Windows. At this time, the company has not yet provided official details or definitive confirmations regarding the changes shown in the video.
