Is GTA 6 the Most Expensive Game Ever? The Numbers Are Frightening

The video game release calendar for the coming months revolves around GTA 6. The game is set to arrive on November 19, 2026, and various competing publishers are adjusting their launch plans to avoid having to contend with Rockstar's game. The title has been in development for some time and could have a huge budget.

A "Costly" Game

According to some estimates, GTA 6 would have cost between 1 and 1.5 billion dollars. This is an enormous figure, widely justified by the potential profits the game could guarantee. It is, in fact, the most anticipated title at the moment and the likely benchmark of the gaming world for the next few years.

Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has not confirmed these figures but emphasized that the game has been "costly" to develop, without providing further details but implying that the available budget is significant.

For now, there are no official numbers regarding the development costs of the game, which, in any case, far exceed the budgets of the largest video game productions such as The Last of Us Part 2 and Horizon Forbidden West, which required about 200 million dollars, and titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, which reached 700 million dollars.

GTA 6 could record record sales, and therefore could easily cover development costs, especially considering the launch price which may be higher than the current standards for games on the market. Let's remember that the game will be released on consoles first and then, at a later date, will come to PC.
