Screenless and with a Week of Battery Life: Fitbit Air Challenges the Market at 99 Euros

Fitbit has announced the debut of Fitbit Air, a tracker that completely forgoes a screen to focus on ergonomics, biometric precision, and ultimately, maximum essentialism.

The device features a peculiar design nicknamed "pebble," a small central unit that disappears within interchangeable straps, designed to be worn 24/7 without the typical bulk of traditional smartwatches. The philosophy behind this choice is clear: to eliminate the distractions of visual notifications to concentrate on high-fidelity data collection through a suite of sensors that monitors heart rate, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), and heart rate variability (HRV).

Fitbit Air: A Return to Essentials with Google Intelligence

Despite its compact size, the technical endowment does not compromise, according to the manufacturer. The device can independently detect the most common physical activities, improving tracking accuracy over time thanks to adaptive algorithms. Sleep monitoring remains one of the cornerstones of the Fitbit experience, providing details on the phases and duration of nighttime rest.

One of the most advanced features is the management of heart rate alerts, including the detection of potential signs of atrial fibrillation (AFib), although the company specifies that the device does not replace professional medical diagnosis. The integration with the Google ecosystem is complete: the tracker communicates with the Google Health app and leverages the capabilities of the new Google Health Coach. This latter feature, accessible through a Premium subscription, allows you to take photos in the gym of equipment or workout boards to digitize progress.

In terms of battery life, Fitbit Air guarantees up to one week of use on a single charge, a result made possible by the absence of a power-hungry display. For emergencies, the fast-charging system ensures an entire day's operation with just five minutes of connection to the power grid. Besides the standard straps, such as the Performance Loop made of recycled material or the Active Band in sweat-resistant silicone, Google has announced a Special Edition designed by Stephen Curry. This version stands out with a rye brown color accented with orange and a water-repellent coating specifically to handle moisture during the most intense gaming sessions.

Prices and Promotions for the Italian Market

The launch of Fitbit Air in Italy is set for May 26, with pre-orders already open from today. The list price is 99.99 euros, a price that includes three months of subscription to Google Health Premium (already included for subscribers to the Google AI Pro and Ultra plans). The commercial strategies for pre-order are particularly aggressive: the Google Store offers a 45 euro store credit for purchases made by May 31, ideal for purchasing a second strap, while Amazon is offering an extra sports strap for the same time period. The product will also be available at Mediaworld and Unieuro chains.
