The BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme Sold at a Record Price of $2,760,000
Just today, we talked about the excellent numbers recorded at the Beijing Auto Show, in terms of brand participation and visitors. However, there is another figure for which this edition will be remembered, namely the most expensive transaction of the event.
Thanks to Yangwang, BYD's luxury brand, which showcased its super electric car U9 Xtreme, and which was sold during the fair for a record sum of 20,000,000 Chinese yuan, approximately $2,670,000. This is, of course, the most expensive BYD ever.
According to Li Yunfei, the general director of branding and public relations for the BYD group, the U9 Xtreme was the most expensive model sold during the show. The car is produced in only 30 units worldwide.
BYD's president, Wang Chuanfu, personally attended the car's delivery.
The U9 Xtreme recorded a lap time on the Nürburgring Nordschleife of 6:59.157, placing it at the top of the production electric vehicle category. This is the benchmark for us Westerners, as the car actually holds several records on Chinese tracks as well.
Aesthetics is clearly an important factor for this car, which also attracts attention for its monstrous specifications: over 3,000 hp of power, with a 1,200-volt architecture. The vehicle is also equipped with a fully active and independent suspension system called DiSus-X, which allows the car to literally dance and jump in place.
During the fair, it was not the only novelty for Yangwang, which also presented the U8L, a four-seat luxury SUV that aims to compete with legends like Mercedes-Maybach, even in terms of price: rumors suggest a cost exceeding $179,000.
