OVHcloud Adds Quandela Belenos Photonic Computer to Its Quantum Platform
Just like in the early days of computers when very few entities could purchase a mainframe and had to rent them for the time necessary to conduct calculations, quantum computers are now predominantly accessible via the cloud due to their substantial installation and management costs. Therefore, it is not surprising that OVHcloud has announced a collaboration with the French startup Quandela to bring Quandela's quantum computer Belenos to the cloud.
OVHcloud Expands Its Quantum Platform with Quandela Belenos
Quandela is committed to developing photonic quantum computers that exploit the entanglement of individual photons for their operation. Belenos is a quantum computer equipped with 12 qubits, allowing it to deliver 4,000 times the computational power of its predecessor due to a high level of fidelity (that is, the absence of errors during calculations).
The interesting aspect of Quandela's approach is that it allows for total connectivity: each qubit can be connected to every other qubit, thus overcoming a fundamental limitation of alternative architectures like superconductors or ions, which, due to intrinsic physical limits, do not allow each qubit to be directly connected to every other.
The addition of Quandela Belenos enables OVHcloud to reach a total of 15 platforms in its quantum offering, which is available with an "as a service" model allowing users to pay for every hour of simulator usage or per second in the case of actual quantum computers.
"We are excited to fulfill the promise of the Quantum Platform with the integration of a second reference quantum computer, Belenos, created by the French company Quandela. The quantum revolution is in full swing, and OVHcloud is at the forefront as a European cloud leader within the ecosystem," declared Miroslaw Klaba, R&D Director of OVHcloud.
"The integration of Belenos's 12 qubits into OVHcloud's offering represents a decisive step for the quantum sector in Europe. Accessible via the cloud, this photonic computer becomes a concrete tool for companies. With OVHcloud, we offer both data scientists and researchers the opportunity to develop their algorithms on a flexible and sovereign infrastructure," stated Niccolò Somaschi, CEO and co-founder of Quandela.
