The memory crisis strikes again: skyrocketing prices for Steam Machine and Steam Frame?

The memory crisis has derailed Valve's plans, forcing the company to revise its launch programs and prices for the new Steam Machine and Steam Frame, products that were announced last year, before the outbreak of the crisis. According to a new report, the increases in component costs would be significant. Meanwhile, let's remember that Valve has launched the new Steam Controller.

Skyrocketing prices due to RAM?

At the moment, there are no precise details, but based on early information, the price of the Steam Machine and Steam Frame is expected to be much higher than initially anticipated due to the rise in memory costs. Valve has not provided detailed pricing information, and sources also do not offer precise figures, but the increase in memory costs (especially for RAM) will significantly impact the final price and could hinder the distribution of the company's new products.

As we have seen in recent days, Valve is reportedly opting for a staggered launch of the new products due to the ongoing crisis. Consequently, after the Steam Controller, which does not use RAM and thus did not pose particular issues for the launch window, the Steam Machine will arrive first, followed by Steam Frame (or vice versa), and there will not be a simultaneous debut of the products.

Let’s recall that during the last Game Developers Conference, Valve humorously invited developers to sell available RAM so that it could be purchased to complete the launch of the Steam Machine.
