The Blood of Dawnwalker: the 30-day system, PC requirements, and the development team's vision on AI usage

The role-playing game landscape is about to welcome a new ambitious title: The Blood of Dawnwalker, developed by Rebel Wolves and led by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, known for his work on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The game, set to release on September 3, promises to change some rules of the RPG genre with an innovative narrative structure and strong freedom of action.

Set in an imaginary kingdom of southeastern Europe in the 14th century, the title presents a world dominated by vampires, where the protagonist Coen lives a double life: human during the day and vampire at night. This duality is not just aesthetic but deeply influences gameplay, offering different approaches to missions and interactions.

One of the game's most distinctive elements is the absence of a linear main quest. After an introductory phase, players can tackle objectives in any order they prefer or attempt to challenge the main enemy right away. However, this freedom is balanced by a crucial mechanic: time. Players have 30 in-game days and nights to save the protagonist’s family.

The Blood of Dawnwalker and the "30-day limit"

Exceeding this limit does not result in a game over but radically changes the narrative circumstances. According to the developers, the world reacts to the player’s actions (or inactions): some characters may die permanently, entire narrative lines may be interrupted, and the protagonist’s motivations may evolve. This system ensures a great variety of endings and encourages replayability.

Choices have significant weight in the game world as well. For example, eliminating a key character like a blacksmith will result in the permanent closure of their shop, forcing the player to find alternatives. Additionally, the protagonist can lose control of his vampiric nature, even accidentally killing important characters.

The Blood of Dawnwalker: PC requirements and views on AI

From a technical standpoint, The Blood of Dawnwalker is developed with Unreal Engine 5, offering modern graphics but also relatively high hardware requirements. To play at 1080p and 30fps, video cards like the RTX 3050 or equivalents are required, while to achieve 60fps without upscaling, GPUs with at least 12GB of VRAM are needed. This could pose a challenge for many users, especially those with older setups.

Another relevant theme concerns the use of artificial intelligence in development. Tomaszkiewicz clarified that generative AI tools were only employed in the early stages to test dialogues and narrative flows, prior to recording with real actors. However, the team strongly emphasized that no final game content was created through AI: everything was made by people.

The director also expressed a balanced vision on the use of AI, stating that it should serve to support developers by alleviating repetitive tasks but not replacing human work. This position reflects an increasingly common approach in the industry, where technological innovation must coexist with creativity.
