Google Ready to Invest Up to $40 Billion in Anthropic to Strengthen the Global AI Race

The global competition in artificial intelligence is entering a new phase with the announcement of a possible investment of up to $40 billion by Google in Anthropic. The operation, reported by Bloomberg, entails an initial immediate funding of $10 billion, followed by an additional $30 billion contingent upon achieving specific performance targets.

This investment comes at a crucial moment for Anthropic, which recently unveiled its new artificial intelligence model, Mythos. Considered the most powerful model developed to date by the company, Mythos is also designed for advanced applications in the field of cybersecurity. However, due to the risk of misuse, access to the model has been limited to a small group of partners, although some unauthorized versions are believed to have already circulated.

One of the central elements of the AI race is the availability of computational resources. Training and deploying increasingly complex models require enormous amounts of computing power, and Anthropic is no exception. In recent months, the company faced challenges related to usage limits of its assistant Claude, prompting it to forge new infrastructural agreements.

Agreements, Competition, and Collaboration: More Details on Google - Anthropic

Among the new agreements, a collaboration with Amazon stands out, which has already invested an additional $5 billion. The agreement allows Anthropic to utilize up to $100 billion in computational capacity, equating to about 5 gigawatts in the long term. Additionally, an agreement has been signed with CoreWeave to expand data center capacity.

Despite being a direct competitor in the development of AI models, Google also represents a key partner for Anthropic. The company uses Google Cloud to access advanced infrastructures and TPU (Tensor Processing Unit), chips specifically designed for AI-related workloads and considered among the best alternatives to Nvidia processors.

The collaboration between the two companies is not new. Recently, Anthropic announced a partnership with Google and Broadcom to gain access to 3.5 gigawatts of TPU-based computational capacity starting from 2027. The new agreement further expands this collaboration, with Google Cloud providing an additional 5 gigawatts over the next five years. With a valuation already at $350 billion and potential investors ready to reach up to $800 billion, Anthropic reinforces its position as a key player in the AI revolution.
