Final Fantasy XIV Comes to Switch 2 in August: Expanded Free Trial and No Nintendo Switch Online Requirement

Final Fantasy XIV prepares to further expand its player base with its arrival on Nintendo Switch 2, scheduled for August 2026. The announcement, made during Fan Fest, marks an important step for one of the most popular MMORPGs in recent years, finally offering the possibility to play on the go.

Square Enix has confirmed that the Switch 2 version will include a one-month early access period aimed at testing the stability of the port and gathering feedback from the community. This approach aims to ensure a smooth experience from the official launch, avoiding technical issues that could compromise the players' enjoyment.

One of the most interesting aspects concerns the free trial. Not only will there be no time limits during the trial, but the available content will also be expanded to include the acclaimed expansion Shadowbringers. This means that new users will have access to a vast amount of content without needing to pay upfront, although with some typical limitations of free accounts.

At the end of the trial period, a monthly subscription will still be required to continue playing.
