Troy Baker is working on a project of his own: the revelation from the most famous actor and voice actor in video games

Video game enthusiasts will know exactly who is being referred to when Troy Baker's name comes up, one of the most famous actors and voice actors in the industry. If you happen to be unfamiliar with his career, we can mention The Last of Us, where he portrayed Joel, and Uncharted, in which he took on the role of Sam Drake, and Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle, where he lent his voice and movements to Indy. These are just two of the numerous high-caliber titles he has worked on.

That said, in an interview with Eurogamer, he revealed his desire to create a game of his own – and perhaps even establish a development studio. During the Q&A, Baker referred to Abubakar Salim, the actor who played Bayek in Assassin's Creed Origins. Salim indeed founded his own development studio, which debuted with the acclaimed Tales of Kenzera: Zau.

On his part, Baker boasts an enviable resume: he has closely collaborated with Ken Levine, Hideo Kojima, Neil Druckmann, Todd Howard, and the recently departed Vince Zampella. These individuals directed some of the greatest projects in video game history, and according to Baker, he has absorbed knowledge that goes well beyond the roles he has played so far. We’re talking about skills in development, narrative construction, and production management that Baker would like to apply in a new capacity.

"I’ve had the incredible opportunity to work with the best in the industry, it’s amazing: Ken Levine, Hideo Kojima, Neil Druckmann, Todd Howard, Vince Zampella... these people are true role models. I’ve worked with them and learned a lot. And what excites me is to take those principles, those foundations of hugely successful titles – not only in terms of sales and figures but also for the stories that defined the industry – and innovate, replicate, and emulate those processes and practices in the stories I want to tell."

Currently, Baker is in the early stages of the project. He has confirmed the start of preliminary discussions on a narrative concept, potential collaborations, and creative direction, without specifying a precise timeline. The priority is on the final product's quality, with an approach that excludes any forced acceleration of development.

The transition from acted storytelling to designed storytelling represents a natural evolution for a figure with such extensive experience. It remains to be seen what form his first title will take, but the technical and creative foundations suggest a production oriented towards high-level narration, careful design, and solid gameplay foundations.
